Staff Engineers

Though he's never been a musician, Carl Rowatti, President and Chief Engineer, of Trutone Mastering Labs NYC, can really play the lathe! As a youngster growing up in New Jersey, Carl was fascinated by his violinist dad's weekend gig … recording wedding ceremonies on a vintage tape recorder and cutting 78 RPM records of the services for the happy couples.

A naturally gifted techie, Carl was soon earning spending money recording garage and local school productions with his dad’s gear. A search for microphones at a local radio station turned up a disc cutting lathe far superior to his dad’s old Presto and greatly enhanced the quality of Carl’s masters. “I was always visiting record stores and calling on label execs; before long I built a formidable client base”….such was the early beginnings of Trutone.
