owner and chief mastering engineer
Although he has never been a musician, Carl Rowatti, Owner and Chief Mastering Engineer of Trutone Mastering Labs, can really play the lathe!
As a youngster growing up in New Jersey, Carl was fascinated by his violinist dad’s weekend gig… recording wedding ceremonies on a vintage tape recorder and cutting a 78 rpm record of the services for the ecstatic newlyweds.
Today Carl is renowned in the US and internationally as an aficionado on the art of cutting and mastering vinyl records.
A naturally gifted techie, Carl was soon earning spending money recording garage and local school productions with his dad’s gear. A search for microphones at a local radio station turned up a disc cutting lathe far superior to his dad’s old Presto and greatly enhanced the quality of Carl’s masters. “I was always visiting record stores and calling on label execs; before long I built a formidable client base”… such was the early beginnings of Trutone.
Today Carl is renowned in the US and internationally as an aficionado on the art of cutting and mastering vinyl records. Carl’s talents are not only directed to music; phono cartridge manufacturers Stanton , Shure and Serrato/Rane have consulted with Carl to create special test records that are utilized to ensure quality and uniformity of their respective cartridge lines. In addition, Stanton’s “Final Scratch” record was also mastered by Carl.

“It have been a joy to know and work with Adrianna, Carl and their company Trutone since the late 1980’s. It is rare to find a family owned and operated music business like Trutone, with longevity, consistency of excellence and accountability……they work super hard and are genuinely concerned about their client’s satisfaction. Carl’s expert mastering skills and attention to detail have firmly established Trutone Mastering Labs as one of the very best mastering resources available.”
Trutone is top notch! Carl Rowatti’s ears are amazing, as is his technical expertise. The results on my CD and vinyl were a superb (and loud) production. Overall everyone at Trutone was a pleasure to work with and totally helpful!
“In all our years of pressing vinyl at Traffic Entertainment Group, we have had the opportunity to work with a vast number of companies in every step of the process. Nobody has been able to match the level of professionalism and overall sonic quality that Trutone has provided us from day one, which is why we continue to give them our business today. Often times, the quality of an original master can be compromised for the worse as it is passed through the different stages of the pressing process. Such is not the case here and with Carl at Trutone, the overall sound is complimented, assuring us a satisfying finished product.”
Trutone Mastering is by far the best in the business; we would never send our stuff anywhere else. Carl is on point every time and cares about our music as much as we do.
